Episode 115: Forgive

Last night’s episode was a reluctant return to the clubstep hybrid of 113. In terms of the oil/water emulsification of club sprightliness and halfstep langour, I feel this one was lacking whatever binder made the first iteration work. The tonal whiplash seems a bit much. YMMV, of course, and there are some great tunes represented, some fun transitions… just the overall structure of the mix feels a bit lopsided to me.

Also, Justin Bieber makes his first appearance on SttM, and that can’t be seen as a good thing. Also the inclusion of the Basic Channel track, which ended up only burbling in the background. I had that in the mix in case I needed to extend the outro, which Ms. Kelela ended up taking care of without any help.

Hence the name: preemptively asking of forgiveness before the first note lands. I should stop apologizing! It’s a pretty good mix, all things considered.
