Episode 128: Time 2 Lose
The new DJ Ends EP is pretty great. It’s a Teutonic take on Footwork, combined with Jungle influences. This episode starts out with a more Footwork-indebted track before sequeing into Miko, a Polish producer. There’s plenty of oldschool Chicago footwork to come, but Sun People, bastiengoat from Oakland, Malou Mørkeberg from Finnland, Jlin from Detroit, and KΣITO from Japan serve as reminders that the genre has moved well past its birthplace and cradle.
At around the halfway point, the mix drops footwork-tempo Jungle from Fanu, and takes a break from the genre. The walkabout continues with the avant-garde pop of Pram, the middle-eastern sounds of Natacha Atlas, the sonic attack of Hanz, more Jungle from Tim Reaper, and the sped up Grime of Proc Fiskal, before returning to proper Footwork sounds for the conclusion.
