Top Episodes of 2019!

It is JANUARY! A month when we hit the brakes and spend a bit of time looking back, sifting through all the best of lists that came out (do we need a best of best of lists list to sort through them all?)

Here’s my rather belated contribution to the genre… the top ten most popular SttM episodes of the past year, with quite a few ties, to be honest…

10/9. A tie!
  • 140: 2019 Me Hates 2018 Me Last year’s January roundup of some of my favorite tunes of the preceding year (this year’s edition should be upcoming!)
  • 150: Babycakes A melange of Hard Drum, hard club, and Jersey Club, with a few house and techno jams thrown in for flava
8/7. Another tie!
  • 153: Don’t Stop the Dance It’s a Plaid sandwich! House and disco make the filling, with some left-field techno right in the middle as condiment, but the bread is Plaid’s “Maru” to start things off and Orbital’s remix of the same at the end
  • 155: Hypersigil D’n’B! One of several D/B/Jungle episodes I did in 2019, this one distinguishes itself by leaning heavily on Autonomic jams and getting extra weird and noisy in the middle
6. 152: Irie

Starts out with Dangermouse and Karen O, then takes an immediate left turn into D****** and Grime, where it remains for the remainder

5/4. Oh hey, it’s a tie!
3. 158: I Can’t Stop

Starts out a traditional “random left turn” SttM episode, with dance rock and club and sundry… and then takes the left turn of settling on one genre (d******, no less) for most of its second half

2. 157: Blow Yo Head Off

One of several episodes from 2019 to explore the 160BPM overlap between UK-bred Jungle and Chicago-bred Footwork. This one focuses heavily on the latter, but begins with a BANGIN’ Morwell track and includes two tunes by Amon Tobin (one under his Cujo alias) in a goddamn row

1. …

Nope, you don’t get the answer to that yet! Tune in to RadioNOPE this Wednesday (January 8) at 11E/8P to find out, as we re-air the most popular SttM episode of 2019! I can tell you that it was the favorite by a healthy margin, and that despite that fact it goes some very strange places…
