Episode 218: Jump Dat

I put this episode together in September of 2021. It is currently May of 2022 and I wish I could interrogate myself of eight months ago to understand what he was thinking. Especially because the episode I just finished and aired, I suddenly realize, shares no fewer than THREE tracks. I managed to subconsciously plagiarize myself quite a bit, yet came up with a much more coherent episode. This here… I dunno.

So: things start off with a mashup. The kind of popist move I’d usually reserve for the end of a mix, but here it is, an oddly bright opening to a markedly dark mix. From there into an extended Neil Landstrumm instrumental, something that would sit more comfortably further into a mix. Then right back into pop territory with a Charli XCX remix. Continuing this whiplash, we have an extended techno tune from Bicep. Then a dance remix of a Deeper tune. Then back into obscure territory with some Italo.

The whiplash lets up for a middle third that delves further and further into dark sounds, only to emerge on the other side with a block of straight goth/industrial. This all before the rousing finale: three challenging techno/club tracks. What was I thinking?
