Episode 206: Put Yr Soul Into It

This episode starts out straight ahead rock’n’roll, sunny sounds (Admiral Ackbar shouts a warning from his chair) from Australia’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever followed by the darker straigt-outta-Leeds post-punk vibes of I LIKE TRAINS (featuring some downright Sonic Youth guitar tones). From there, things veer into clubland, with underground electronic and techno sounds… there are even some tracks of D’n’B producers working in a slower tempo, and some highspeed house to close things out. What to call this one but a classic SttM “offensively eclectic” mix?

Despite the relatively quick (and accelerating) BPM, things slink along with a creaky and sinister feel for most of the running time. The rhythms take a turn for the frantic in the second half, just barely balanced out by bright jazzy sounds.
